Child of Magic, Magic Child

Do you remember your magic?

Child of nature,

Child of moonbeams,

Child of gods and goddesses old and new

Did you misplace your open-mouthed delight?

Joyous squeals at the bright blaze of dragonfly wings

Enraptured awe of spider spinning her silk

Unabashed glee at puddles made for bare feet

When, where, did you tuck your wonder away?

Who said that it’s better to walk than leap?

To sit than skip?

To run for miles not marvels?

That may have been their way

You get to carve a different path

Stepping off concrete into warm, rain-soaked soil

Your soles remember what your heart knows so well

Each step more sure

Moving forward as you retrieve what was yours long ago

What is yours still

Look, there, under that weathered rock!

Next to the mushroom an enchanted world awaits

Beetles and caterpillars stir awake your smile

Ticked by friendly ferns, by sweetgrass blades

One bright yellow wildflower offers dew to quench your thirst

You drink, watching a bumblebee sip nectar from the next

Not separate, just as thirsty, just as wild

You are a child of magic - it is yours

It’s here

It never left you, Magic Child
